What to Know About Door-to-Door Sales

Post Date:04/22/2026 10:01 am

Door-to-Door Sales are Springing Up
The change of season brings more than just warm weather to Albertville - it's also peak season for door-to-door sales. Here's what you need to know to stay safe and informed.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS
The City of Albertville requires all peddlers, solicitors, and transient merchants to register with the City. Peddlers and transient merchants must obtain a City-issued license before selling within the community and it must always be visible.

Information on how to obtain a license or a listing of the current license holders are available on the City's website.

Charitable, religious, political, or educational groups registered with the State or Minnesota don't need licenses, but they should still have identification.

No Soliciting Stock Sign

 KEEP YOUR HOME PEACEFUL

  • Not interested in sales calls? You have options
  • Get a "No Soliciting" sign for your home's main entrance
  • You are not required to open the door
  • Simply ask them to leave. Solicitors must comply and cannot remain on your property

KEEP THESE GUIDELINES IN MIND

  • Ask to see the City-issued license
  • Never let strangers inside your home to use the bathroom or for product demos
  • Keep contact brief, engaging in conversation encourages them to stay
  • Watch for suspicious behavior like testing door handles, peering in windows, or entering backyards.

Report aggressive or threatening solicitors to law enforcement immediately by dialing 911. Contact the non-emergency Wright County Dispatch at 763-682-1162 for suspicious solicitors. When reporting, remember to note descriptions and travel directions.
