The Compost Site is closed for the season and will reopen in April 2026.

Due to rising costs, the Cities of Albertville and Otsego will be restricting hours of operation at the compost site.

For nearly 20 years, the site has been open to the public at no charge, as the cities were able to find contractors to chip and haul materials at little or no cost. Unfortunately, the cost of chipping and hauling has increased significantly. So far this year, the cities have already paid $81,000 for this service and will likely need to pay for it again before the year ends.

Adding to the challenge, much of the material being dropped off is not from Albertville or Otsego residents. A large portion comes from non-residents or contractors illegally dumping, which drives up costs for our taxpayers.

To keep the site available for residents while controlling expenses, new restricted hours will be based on peak usage times. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding as we work to manage resources responsibly.
